Resilience refers to the ability to cope with high levels of stress and trauma that is either mental, emotional or physical. The human body is adaptable, and can train to withstand high levels of pain. Primarily, research suggests that training should start by endurance training to build body mass to withstand high levels of physical stress. These include exercises such as aerobic workouts to improve body coping to stress and associated pain. From this, exposure therapy is suggested to increase the level of endurance. By gradual exposure to pain, one is able to increase their pain threshold, which would in turn help to better withstand blows. Stevens, Mauger, Hassmèn, & Taylor (2018) also suggest that yoga is could be a coping mechanism to pain endurance. However, this would only be applicable in recovery processes.
