Answer to Question #152012 in Genetics for Ashwin

Question #152012

Thomas ordered genetic testing for his pet mouse. The results show that the mouse has a mutation in one of the alleles of the gene responsible for the production of hydrochloric acid. As a result, the mouse isn’t producing enough acid and has some issues digesting food. Is this mutation dominant, recessive, or does it show incomplete dominance?

The mutation shows incomplete dominance, as hydrochloric acid is still being produced, only in insufficient quantities. If the mutation were dominant, then hydrochloric acid would not be produced at all. And if it were recessive, it would not affect the production of acid.
