Answer to Question #102557 in Evolution for Lila Touzouirt

Question #102557
which of the waters will allow better photosynthesis (therefore greater oxygen release), boiled water, sparkling water or tap water? is there any pertinent scientific article on the subject, I couldn't find anything related to the influence of water (boiled, tap or sparkling) on photosynthesis, thanks :)

Several aspects are required for photosynthesis to occur. That is for a plant to be able to convert light energy to chemical energy. these factors include;

  • water
  • carbon dioxide
  • chlorophyll
  • sun light

For our case, we are interested with the source of water that will result to increased yield of oxygen released.

Sparkling water will allow better photosynthesis to take place thereby leading to increased oxygen release compared to tap water and boiled water.

Sparkling water is carbonated which means that it contains increased amount of carbon dioxide that is essential for the process of photosynthesis to occur. Increased amounts ,as it is in sparkling water will accelerate the rate at which photosynthesis takes place hence increased oxygen release.

Tap water can be used, however some tap water may contain minerals or chemicals that may affect the growth of a plant and it is as a resultant of slow rate of photosynthesis.

boiled water should totally be avoided during photosynthesis because it can denature enzymes in the plant thereby lowering the rate at which photosynthesis takes place.

Unfortunately, there is currently no pertinent scientific article for the subject .
