Answer to Question #180835 in Ecology for uzma

Question #180835

 (4) Almost every lecture in this course focused on a different animal behaviour. Choose your favourite and tell me about the adaptive basis of this behaviour. In particular

Favourite behaviour: Gazelle stotting

1. Name a benefit (B) of this behaviour. What is a cost (C) of this behaviour?

2. Choosing one personality category, how would this behaviour vary among individuals?

3. Describe two ways human induced, rapid ecological change can impact this behaviour.

4. How can this behaviour be used as an early-warning indicator of population threat?

5. How can knowledge about this behaviour be used to facilitate the successful colonisation of restored or recovering habitat?

a.A good means of rapid escape or jumping over obstructions. However, this cannot be true in Thomson's gazelles because these prey animals do not stot when a predator is less than approximately 40 m away.

b.An anti-ambush behavior; animals living in tall grass may leap into the air to detected potential predators.

2individual differences are the ways in which people differ from each other. this behavior reflects expressive personality where individuals can be able to project a futer danger before it happens

3.Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water.Impacts from human activity on land and in the water can influence ecosystems profoundly. Climate change, ocean acidification, permafrost melting, habitat loss, eutrophication, stormwater runoff, air pollution, contaminants, and invasive species are among many problems facing ecosystems.

4.early warning systems have been developed and implemented for: Geological hazards like tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic activity, and landslides. Hydrometeorological hazards including severe weather in land and at sea, floods, droughts, hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones, tornados, cold and heat waves, etc. identifies countries facing the greatest demographic challenges with respect to hunger, poverty, water scarcity, environmental degradation and political instability, taking into account various factors affecting their ability to meet the needs of a growing population, like corruption, climate change

5.knoledge about this projects helps provide restoration projects to mitigate fragmentation-related problems by increasing the size of the habitat patch, bolstering genetic diversity, and fostering ecological linkages between patches. Restoration may also reestablish historical disturbance patterns, such as those involving flooding or fire in recovering habitat.
