Write short notes on:

The Competitive Exclusion Principle

The competitive exclusion principle is also known as the Gause’s Law states that “two species that exist in one niche and compete to utilize the same resources cannot coexist stably for a long time”. (Wang & Liu 2020). The growth of the species cannot exceed the available resources and the species with advantageous traits will eventually be selected for leading to the extinction of the species with inferior qualities.

Population density

Population density can be defined as a relative measure of population and how organisms respond to the environmental conditions within the habitat (Brian,2013). An environment that is comprised of favorable conditions will favor the growth and reproduction of organisms leading to an increase in density, while an environment with limited conditions leads to the death of organisms hence a reduction in density.

Measures to control global warming

The rate of carbon emission has increased drastically with the increase in industrialization and use of fossil fuels, to curb the effects of global warming, the following measures can be adopted (David, 2020).

1.     Using renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind energy.

2.     Using electric cars as an alternative to the fossil-fueled automobile.

3.     Advocate for sustainable energy and promote the business that utilizes green energy.

4.     Carry out campaigns advocating for tree plantation to counter the emission of carbon in the atmosphere.

Depleted species

Depleted species can be described as species whose population size is below the optimum number for sustainability and growth. The population size under this scenario is generally considered endangered.

Use of the Red Data Book

The red data book is a state-owned document that keeps records of endangered species of plants and animals within the boundaries of a state or country (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The main use of this document is to keep a record of endangered species and advocates for conservation to promote their sustainability.
