The major components of plasma membrane are

1.   Lipids and proteins.


The principal components of plasma membrane are lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. Lipids constitutes of 40% of composition of mass of membrane volume (in which 75% of lipid is phospholipids, 20% of lipid is cholesterol and 5% of lipid is glycolipids), Protein accounts 50% of composition of mass of membrane volume and carbohydrate accounts for 10% of mass of the membrane volume.
