sample A - mitosis. It is a cell division, during which separate chromatids move to different poles of the cell, which results in formation of two cells identical to each other and to the maternal cell.
sample B - meiosis. During the first division, which is called reduction, homologous chromosomes move to different poles, which results in their reduced number. Besides, crossing over takes place, which contributes to new combinations of alleles. During the second division, separation of chromatids takes place. The four daughter cells are different from each other and from the maternal cell.
