RuBisCo full form:

Ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase enzyme.

Characteristics:

It is the most abundant enzyme protein on earth. It is important because it is responsible for fixing carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere into energy-rich organic molecules like glucose.

Estimation :

According to the latest research studies the worldwide mass of rubisco is approximately 30 GT ( gigatonnes) of dry weight in 2x1014 metre squares of leaves of land plants, and there are approximately 3.04 trillion trees in the world.

1 gigatonne = 1,000,000,000 kilograms

1 trillion = 1,000,000,000,000

So, the amount of Rubisco enzyme is present in one tree= 30 GT / 3.04 trillion

  • = 30,000,000,000/3040,000,000,000
  • =30/3040
  • = 0.009868 kilograms
  • 9 gram in terms of dry weight

So, the amount of Rubisco enzyme is present in one tree is 9 grams by dry weight.
