Microtubules are made-up of protein subunits, called tubulin, which is acidic in nature having a molecular weight of 55,000 dalton and consisting of 500 amino acid residues. Tubulin is composed of two kinds of monomers, alpha tubulin and beta tubulin. The microtubular assembly is formed actually of tubulin dimers, which are synthesized from monomers through phosphorylation mediated by cyclic AMP-dependent kinase.
