Answer to Question #115663 in Cell Biology for Alexandar

Question #115663
A reaction mixture includes hexokinase, glucose isomerase and 0.0001 mol / l glucose. Hexokinase (KM value = 10-5 mol / l) converts glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, glucose isomerase (KM value = 3.3 x 10-3 mol / l) to fructose. Which main product am I expecting?

Glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate (GAP) and dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) are expected as the main products. Through isomerization, mediated by an allosteric enzyme phosphofructokinase, fructose 6- phosphate is phosphorylated by ATP to fructose 1,6 bisphosphate which is then split further to give glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate (GAP) and dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP).
