Electrons are transported from NADH and FADH2 to oxygen in mitochondria. In case of photosynthetic process that takes place in chloroplasts, oxygen donates the electron to photosystem, where sunlight energy causes its excitation to the high-energy level. As a result, transport of electrons can proceed back to NADP+.
