Anabolic pathways are the processes that require energy for the synthesis of large molecules, while catabolic pathways are the processes that produce energy during the breakdown of large molecules. Kinetic energy is found in moving object, while potential energy is the found in resting objects. An open system is a system in which energy can be shared with its surrounding environment, while in a closed system, energy cannot be transferred to its surrounding environment. An exergonic reaction produces energy to its surrounding environment, while an endergonic reaction takes energy from its surrounding environment.
