 Iodine is a very important micro mineral in the nutrition of animals. This is because it has a minimum level necessary for proper metabolic function in an animal .It is an important component of thyroid hormones that are necessary for energy metabolism in animals. It is also unique among minerals because a deficiency in iodine will make the thyroid gland to function abnormally and can make the animal to suffer a condition known as goiter.
