Ketoacidosis is a medical condition where the acidic ketones build up in the body to extremely high levels that are dangerous to the body. Diabetes with and other stressors such as infection increases the chances of diabetic ketoacidosis. And this is attributed to the fact that diabetes reduces the production of insulin which is mandated to move sugars (glucose) into cells where it is needed for energy production. As a result, the ketones will accumulate, leading to ketoacidosis. On the other hand, ketoacidosis is more common in type 1 diabetes than type 2 diabetes.
