The amino acid will be sequentially eluted out of the column according to their relative ionic interaction with sulfonic groups at a particular pH. Amino acids with a weaker interaction at a particular pH will be eluted out in this order, At pH 3.49 Aspartic acid will eluted first, leucine will be eluted at pH 4.12 then at pH 6.40, the basic amino acids will be eluted out of the column in the following order, Histidine and Arginine
