4.     Drug abuse research is an important public investment that has yielded substantial advances in scientific understanding about all facets of drug abuse and important discoveries in basic neurobiology, psychiatry, pain research, and other adjacent fields of inquiry. A sustained research effort will strengthen society's capacity to reduce drug abuse and ameliorate its adverse consequences. Drug abuse research, however, must compete for funding with research in other fields of public health, research in other scientific domains, and other pressing public needs. Recognizing the scarcity of resources, mechanisms are identified to effectively increase the yield per dollar invested in research.

5.     a) For our purposes, sociological theories understand substance abuse as a societal phenomenon, having largely cultural, social, and economic origins or ties. Such causes are often external to the individual, i.e., they are not biological, genetic or psychological traits possessed by them.

b) Factors such as peer pressure, physical and sexual abuse, early exposure to drugs, stress, and parental guidance can greatly affect a person's likelihood of drug use and addiction. Development, Genetic and environmental factors interact with critical developmental stages in a person's life to affect addiction risk.

c) Drugs have a powerful effect on the human brain, and the roots of addiction take shape there.

Drug addiction can erode one’s self-esteem and their sense of value. Drug addiction can detract from job performance especially if the person can even be bothered to show up for work.

d) Some of the adverse effects of drug abuse are: Deterioration of physical health: Different drugs have varied and serious direct physical and psychological consequences such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, abnormal body sensation, seizures, suicidal behaviors and even sudden death.

6. Possible Ways to reduce drugs and drug addiction include; effectively deal with peer pressure, Keep a well-balanced life, and Deal with life pressure.

7. Because substance abuse and delinquency are inextricably interrelated, identifying substance-abusing youth in the juvenile justice system is an important first step for intervening in both their substance abuse and their delinquent behavior.
