Meaning of work can be defined as sense of coherence, direction, belonging and significance in the working life. There are six general meanings of work that were developed by Kaplan and Tausky and are covered in the domain that were classified by Wiltshire (2016) into expressive and instrumental meanings. Firstly Kaplan and Tausky defined the meaning of work as status and prestige bestowing activity. Secondly, they explained meaning of work as needed income that is an economic activity which is used as a means of survival.

Thirdly, Kaplan and Tausky in the meaning of work by Wiltshire defined the meaning of work as a time absorption meaning that it is a scheduled activity. Another definition of the meaning of work as per Tausky and Kaplan is interesting contacts that is satisfying interpersonal experiences. They also defined the meaning of work as a service to the society which is a morally correct activity. They finally defined the meaning of work as an intrinsically satisfying activity.
