Functionalists view families as very important social institutions that are essential in maintaining society integrity. Child marriage is seen as functional, that is, it is seen as a societal function. Families who cannot take care of their children adequately can give their children to other men who can. Consequently the families are arrayed off embarassment of not taking care of their children. At times churches and functionalists advocate for child marriages. It brings stability and society continuity without much economic gaps
