What role does culture play in your day to day life? Do you feel you've been influenced by other cultures? Can importing or exporting cultures be problematic? Why or why not?
Talk with someone who has a different culture than you. Do a mini-interview. There are no set questions, but I want you to think like a sociologist and ask questions about their culture you think would be relevant. Write a brief summary of what you learned. You don't have to submit the questions you asked.
It is through a culture that people define themselves and adapt to values shared by society. Additionally, what we learn and do in the course of our day is influenced by culture. Therefore, culture plays a significant role in incorporating various aspects like language, customs, and norms that shape our behavior. I feel that other cultures have influenced me since every time I see people of different cultures doing things differently compared to my culture, I tend to perceive their world from their perspective and understand why they do things differently. Importing and exporting cultures can be problematic and unproblematic at the same time. It can be problematic when people forget where they come from, and it can be unproblematic when people socialize and learn from each other, thus enhancing cohesion.
I learned that there is a big similarity between cultures that involve their belief in natural phenomenon and, most importantly, the significance of the family unit in shaping people's behavior. I also learned that the person's culture revolves around their basic human survival such as clothing and food. Also, it revolves on shared human experiences such as illness and healing or birth and death.
