Answer to Question #132000 in Sociology for ntoko

Question #132000
“Generally, conflict theory argues that there are inequalities amongst the
dominant group and all the other groups in every society. These inequalities
are evident when we look at the structures of wealth, status and power in a
society. These are the same structures that maintain the social, economic,
political and coercive power of one group at the expense of others. In these
structures, family plays a dominant role as a vehicle to maintain patriarchy
and social inequality in society.”

The family plays a crucial role in social inequality that is witnessed in different parts of the world. The family does this because it reinforces economic disparities as well as patriarchy. It is also a source of emotional cruelty and physical violence to its members, mostly directed to the female members of the family. As a result, the family becomes a vehicle through which social inequalities are maintained.
