A social class is defined as a group of people who have similarities in status and power in the society. It is social stratification that outlines the difference that the society members in terms of wealth, educational excellence and power. However, social classes are achieved rather than awarded to individuals at birth. Society defines social stratification that is characterized by social mobility, that is amity to one form one social class to another. Therefore, while one may be born to a middle-class family, they may work hard to move up the social class and become a member of the upper social class. Thus, social class is achieved since the efforts of an individual define their social class.
