Trans-nationalism refers to the diffusion and extension of social, political and economic activities between and outside the jurisdictional boundaries of a country. although Dominicans enter the labor market in unskilled occupations, internal differentiation and occupational stratification exists within the first generation. Among immigrants is a critical consciousness regarding ethno-racial disparities, which often refers to personal incidents in day-to-day life, rather than to the systemic features of a typical American society. Thus, there is a transnational space, having a small core of individuals, including Dominicans, engaging in transnational activities.
