In the 1960s, more states had been formed in Africa than any other continent for very many centuries. However, the precolonial period in the 19th and 20th century provided emergent of new states more than in any other region such as Europe, Asia where smaller states were absorbed into larger empires and Australia where states never evolved at all. Anthropologists were attracted by rich social -political setting of African states which was right under the arms of the colonial ruling.
