Comparing private with public law, it is essential to understand the functions of both. The first one is considered as civil law; therefore, it deals with regulating different disputes between individuals, involving private companies. On the other hand, public law governs the dispute between an individual and the state, or other entities. This way, private law has broader coverage. Both terms are used to distinguish between different theories of law. For instance, Private Law is similar to the Civil Law, which consists of Law of obligations, as well as Law of torts, and Property, Commercial, Competition, Family, Labor and Corporations Law. By contrast, Public Law covers Constitutional, Administrative, Criminal, Municipal Law.
