The UK is a constitutional monarchy whereby the reigning monarch does not make any open political decisions. Reigning monarch is the king or queen who is the head of state at any given time. All political decisions are made by the government and parliament. In 1558, Queen Elizabeth the first was became the first ever Queen of England. When she became Queen, England was in turmoil. There were financial, religious, and political problems that seemed like a burden that no leader could ever fix. However, Elizabeth did just that and became one of the most loved monarchs in English history. In the beginning of her reign, she cleverly took advantage of many men who wanted to become her husband. The Settlement Act was also passed in 1689 by William and Mary, which provided a good balance between the power of Parliament and the power of a monarch. One more act passed by William and Mary on May 24, 1689 was called the Act of Toleration.
