There are four major types of professional ethics which include;

  1. Descriptive ethics which refers to the study of moral beliefs of people.
  2. Meta ethics which deals with origin of ethical principles that guide specification of wrong behavior and rights.
  3. Normative ethics which is concerned with arriving at group of moral conduct rules against which behavior are judged. 
  4. Applied ethic which are designed for implementation in a specific situation.

In philosophical professional ethics various trends can be discussed. First one refers to as quandary ethics which when applied to professional ethics, professional life is studied from the point of view of ethical dilemmas and dramatic problems. Secondly, professional ethics can be studied on the basis of philosophical conceptual analysis. For example, concepts of autonomy and authority are explicit objects of analysis. Thirdly, a philosophical approach of professional ethics may deal with historical world of professional life and the environment in which all the professional activities occur.
