The relevant criterion of a desert is its ability to pay. A desert is a home to many animals and it bears a lot of responsibilities. Therefore, there is a baseline self-awareness that is enough to make appropriate subject of desert. A desert also qualifies as a deserving subject and it is therefore viewed by the roles it play.
