Workplace diversity is the idea is that your workplace should reflect the makeup of greater society. It can either be inherent diversity or acquired diversity. Inherent diversity involves demographic characteristics like race, sex, and age while acquired diversity involves factors such as education, experience, values, skills, and knowledge.

There are various characteristics of a successful diversity management strategy which are;

  1. There is a commitment to boosting cultural competency where there is cross-cultural communication and managers are developing a better understanding of different cultures and perspectives that can help to improve communication and avoid misunderstandings.
  2. It actively seeks out new perspectives and ideas. In a diverse workplace, different perspectives are valued and embraced and can go a long way to foster productive business relationships.
  3. A successful diversity management strategy ensures an environment that treats others how they want to be treated.
  4. It observes diverse traditions, celebrations, and holidays from other cultures
  5. It contributes to the cultural diversity of the workplace
