Answer to Question #78057 in Management for Mohammad Hamza

Question #78057
You are working for the police department of your city. When hiring employees, the department uses a physical ability test in which candidates are asked to do 30 push-ups and 25 sit-ups, as well as climb over a 4-foot wall. When candidates take this test, it seems that about 80% of the men who take the test actually pass it, while only 10% of the female candidates pass the test. Do you believe that this is a fair test? Why or why not? If you are asked to review the employee selection procedures, would you make any changes to this system? Why or why not?
Expert's answer
Men and woman both are different in terms of physical strength and capabilities men’s are more stronger than woman in terms of physical strength and its natural so if we choose employees only based on these physical selection criteria’s then it will be obvious that number of men who will be qualified will be always high in number than women’s. A good police department needs both brain and physical strength so this choosing criterion is not suitable according to me.
The police department should choose physical ability test according to the gender like games there are different categories according to gender, weight, and height. So like this according to me for women, the physical ability test should be less hectic than men so more and more potential women should join the force and serve their country.
According to me by doing 30 push-ups and 25 sit-ups, as well as by climbing over a 4-foot wall can be easily done by a better policeman. If you are asked to review the employee selection procedures, yes I would make some little changes as separate physical ability test and maybe if they were getting some extra advantage in the physical ability test then another test should be little harder than others.
