Problems in Organization Teams

While good teamwork involves connecting with other people, work and the common objective, sometimes there can be challenges that make work less satisfying and harder. Thus, here are challenges that threaten connected teams and practical approaches to overcome them.

1.      Building trust – as this is a critical element in teams and a key building block of all relationships, lack of trust can result in lower productivity because it can break down a team, create a toxic culture and limit communication. It results in lower motivation of team members and unsuccessful human interaction in the workplace.

How to overcome: an effective way to build trust involves having constructive interactions and showing the authentic self which establishes relationships based on open exchanges and honesty.

2.      Lack of self-awareness – working in teams can make a person feel frustrated when interacting with someone who demonstrates low self-awareness traits. This person is resistant to any type of feedback, appears to know it all, blames others and takes undue credit.

How to overcome: as low self-awareness is teamwork enemy, one needs to determine the cause of this problem especially when it comes to emotional connection to others and focus on improving the quality of interactions. The understanding will lead to better ways of working in teams and improving engagement levels.

3.      Lack of purpose – in most teams I have worked with, a struggle occurs because of the hard time encountered when trying to understand the team’s purpose. It becomes a challenge to do your best when you do not know why you are doing it especially even more difficult when there is no convincing reason to connect with team mates.

How to overcome: a satisfactory teamwork will require the creation of a clear purpose and aligning team members to it.
