Management Functions Roles and Skills

Management skills and functions are essential to any organization's success since it impacts the business's efficiency and productivity. As an executive, therefore, one should adopt relevant attributes and possess suitable abilities for particular functions within the organization. That means every industry will have divergent leadership skills pertinent to the nature of its business. For example, some organizations may require leaders who have more technical skills than only conceptual skills. That is their ability to get their hands-on machines, tools, and other equipment utilized in the company, for instance, in an engineering firm, rather than thinking abstractly and formulate ideas. However, it is essential to note that management roles in every organization are categorized into three levels: upper management, middle management, and lower management (Hyväri, 2016). The difference in roles arises in the titles awarded to the executives at each level. For example, in upper management, some organizations are headed by CEOs while presidents head others, but their roles are similar since they focus on the long-term objectives such as expanding the client base and innovation of products or services. Despite the variations in titles, the middle-level executives' functions are often towards interpreting the plans set by the upper executives and developing actions. The lower management, on the other hand, is responsible for the implementation of these plans.
