When you examine the management function rols and skills of a manager in a not for profit organization ,how would they differ from a manager in a for profit organization ?
The managerial roles and skills of a not-for-profit organization greatly differ from that of a for-profit organization. For instance, a not-for-profit manager's key goal is to make plans on how to attract grants and further the mission statement while the for-profit manager's main concern is to make profits. Secondly, the not-for-profit manager must have a well-organized organization so as to win the funder's confidence while a manager in the profit-making organization has well laid out consistent plans so that the profit-making objective is met.
In addition to that, leading a non-profit-making organization means ensuring that both the lowly-paid and the voluntary employees are always highly motivated and constantly passionately speak about the goals of the organization while in a profit-making firm, it is generally influencing employees to work towards a given financial goal. Finally, the controlling function in a non-profit-making organization requires a leader who can take control of situations such as urgent budget cuts and program adjustments brought about by stakeholder populace changes while that of a for-profit organization mostly means identifying errors and setting measures to correct them.
