a. Develop an account of the current thinking about the relationship between job performance and job satisfaction. Examine what could be the possible reasons behind Mr. Ali being unhappy with his job?
There is a strong relationship between satisfaction and performance. When one is satisfied with his or her job, the job performance improves. This is because job satisfaction improves motivation to perform better. In such a case, the salary does not enhance job satisfaction or performance. Besides, the salary does not give happiness to a person. Based on the case presented, the possible reason for Mr. Ali being unhappy is due to the working environment and conditions that affect his well being and self-satisfaction.
b. If Ali’s supervisor believes that ‘happy employees are productive employees’, what kind of problems might he encounter? Be sure to emphasize the role of rewards in your answer
The unhappy condition of Mr. Ali may negatively affect productivity since he does not have the motivation to work better. In this case, money is not a motivation for Mr. Ali since there are other rewards that outweigh money. Therefore, for Mr. Ali to have happiness and perform better, he is supposed to be motivated in a way that will enhance his well being and self-satisfaction.
