Assertiveness refers to the ability to express one's opinion directly and transparently while still respecting others' views. It differs from passive and aggressive communication in that assertive communication involves being able to control one's anger, minimize conflict, meet each other's needs, and foster a healthy relationship between those involved. This important in promoting a pleasant working environment as the people involved understand and respect each other thus reducing conflicts
