Since Iraq had debt problems and Kuwait was overproducing oil, and being led by Saddam Hussain, started to get suffocated since it could not make money. Consequently, Saddam lined up an army and raided Kuwait claiming that Kuwait had always historically been part of Iraq and it was the British that carved off Kuwait from Iraq. Overall, Saddam invaded Kuwait due to an economic warfare since Kuwait overproduced oil that resulted in lowering of oil prices.
