In 1900, the farmers took 38 percent of the American labor force. However, by the end of the century, the number had fallen to 3 percent. In this insight, the dramatic evidence of this revolution was mechanization that occurred due to the up level farmers who tried to simplify their hard work. The internal combustion engine started this process and rubber tires, mechanization also improved the farm implements designed for planting, harvesting, and reaping. The advent of the combine, for example, introduced an economically efficient way to harvest and separate grain. As the century closed, "precision agriculture" became the practice, combining the farmer's down-to-earth know-how with space-based technology, Charles Hart and Charles Parr established the first U.S. factory devoted to manufacturing in 1902.
