Alexander II was fearful of revolution hence he stared with the emancipation Act that enable the serfs get freedom as they were still bound to their land by MIRS and had to pay redemption payments for 49 years. This reform was encouraged by ending serfdom and seeing the failure of Russian troops in the Crimean War. Furthermore, legislation was very important since farmers wanted to have their defined place in Russia (Yiǧit Gülseven, 2017). The legal system on the local level enhanced, although peasants had their trials by separate courts, strengthening division of classes.
