Syracuse located around the Mediterranean Sea was forced to ally with the Romans when it was besieged. Syracuse made this decision as it was aware that Carthaginian would not offer them nay assistance. Thus, Syracuse made peace with the Roman Empire, agreed to pay an indemnity of 100 talent of silver. Additionally, Syracuse agreed to supply the Roman army to Sicily. The strategic alliance of Syracuse enabled it to weather the first Punic war.
