The term Dark Ages was invented by Renaissance authors to differentiate the Renaissance from the period that preceded it. The Dark Ages was viewed as a period of stagnation and barbarism following the fall of Rome. Today, historians refer to this period as the Early Middle Ages and point to the survival of the Byzantine Empire, the emergence of a new Christian European civilization, and multiple technological innovations as examples of a period that was far from Dark.

In your view should this period be seen as "Dark" or not? Explain. (150 words)

Yes, this period is seen as dark ages as it is during the period there was economic ,political and social problems which affected the society under consideration. The era after the fall of roman empire led to distress to the people due to lack of sources and also the period is referred to as bronze age collapse. Roman concrete innovations were lost during this era and due to this it came to be referred as the dark ages. The set back after the fall of the roman empire denoted to the era being referred to as the dark ages as there were ill consequences that rose from the fall. The dark age era denoted to the time after the fall of the roman empire and it is the time where the society faced much set backs and backwardness due to collapse of the already set culture. After the collapse of the empire, life turned to be much dangerous as compared to time before the collapse of the empire.
