The citizens lost their confidence and trust in the government after realizing that the government leaders had been lying to the public concerning the plans and conduct of Vietnam war for a long time. It created credibility gap between the the leaders and the people. It also revealed that the four American presidents were not true about their engagement in their Vietnam war. For example, it analyzed that there was continuous uncertainty as to Johnson's final verdict which had to await secretary's recommendation and views of the congress.
the watergate scandal revealed that president Nixon had conspired to cover up activities that took place after the break in and had attempted to use federal officials to deflegate the investigation. it made the public and his political support completely eroded.
