The Truman Doctrine was coined from his March 1947 speech. Truman made a promise to help any country fighting a communist takeover. The policy eventually came to be known as containment of communism. The Marshall Plan was a major programme of economic stimulus offered to all European nations to enable them recover from the scars of the war.
