i) The major cause of the Berlin Airlift was the cold war which was getting started. Stalin was taking over eastern Europe by salami tactics, and America had just adopted the Truman Doctrine.

Secondly, America and Russia had different Aims for Germany.   Stalin wanted to destroy Germany, and was stripping East Germany of its wealth.   Britain and America wanted to rebuild Germany’s industry – in January 1947, they joined their two zones together into Bizonia.

Effects of Berlin Airlift

The Berlin Airlift was a tremendous cold War victory for the United States. Without firing a shot, the Americans foiled the Soviet plan to hold West Berlin hostage, while simultaneously demonstrating to the world the “Yankee ingenuity” for which their nation was famous

ii) NATO was created in 1949 to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. After the destruction of the Second World War, the nations of Europe struggled to rebuild their economies and ensure their security.

Effects of NATO:

In response, the USSR formed its own treaty (The Warsaw Pact) with several other Eastern European countries

3) It was formed as a response to NATO, which was formed by most West European countries supporting Capitalism and had major military backing from the USA

EFFECTS OF WARSAW:

Warsaw had a great effect as a military deterrent on any of the European nations seeking war against other nations to better further the spread of the ideals it supported.
