The identity of flying tigers was former American pilots. The American Volunteer Group, mostly referred to as the Flying Tigers, was made up of former American military Pilots and recruited to fight the Japanese by Chennault during 1941 and 1942. During this period, the Transportation and Port system of China was under the control of Japan. This led to the Nationalist Government of China almost being cut off from the rest of the world.
