The Exodusters were the African Americans that began to move to the North from the South during the mid -1970s. They left the South since the North was undergoing retreatment from Radical Construction hence saw an opportunity for equality in the North as compared to the South. While in the South during the period of the mid - 1970s they were faced with low wages, reign of the Ku Klux Klan, lack of rights in law, and inability to make a humble and honest living in the South. They moved to areas such as Kansas. For most of them that migrated due to the problems they were facing in the South, it was a push for immigration. For those that migrated after viewing the North as being accommodating to equality and having better job opportunities, it was a pull for immigration.
