People in the new world had a big part in practicing slavery, specifically as laborers. In the New World, most slaves were brought over from Africa via the transatlantic slave trade. Slaves were transported and trade the enslaved Africans to the Americas to work on plantations. The slaves were traded in exchange for manufactured goods such as textiles and rum. The slaves were responsible for producing raw materials such as sugar and cotton, used in the manufacture of goods.

The people responsible for the slave trade were the elders. What usually happened in the slave trade was that a slaver or slave traders captured the African people, especially the village heads, most likely from surrounding villages, and sold them to European powers such as the British and the Spanish. No one was spared from these slavers, not even children.
