Opposing opinions were strongly crushed, despite Washington's position in the black community. Washington has continued to treat the black intellectuals and black papers unfairly who tried to interrogate their authority and views. The legacy of Washington is complicated. He lived among the Blacks within the sea change, but his public statements were racist and obsolete today. Du Bois had inspired a civil rights moment and was named a leader of the African American (O' Brien, 2019). Hence he differs from Washington's economic self-determination over civil and political rights, yet Du Bois was Washington's greatest adversary. According to Du Bois's essay in 1903, we know that Washington secretly sponsored a court case and that his efforts in the education area helped many African Americans have new hope.
