Historical events are shaped that the events that happen today, and the events of today has meaning relevance for the future lives. A very perfect example is the xenophobic attacks that are prevalent in countries such as South Africa, or the bits of racism that feature in major sporting events across the world. In future protests against these vices might be held, and maybe days will be set aside to commemorate these events that occur today. History of tomorrow is based on what happens today.

The second basis for my claim is that History seeks to establish our understanding of and skills in historical enquiry as a basis for understanding ourselves, our society, our identity and world to inform how we might shape the society in future. We cannot shape the future based on vague basis, but due to the events that occur today.
