Explain achievements and challenges of the European unification.
THE EUROPEAN UNION
It has promoted peace values and the well-being of its members; this has seen it enjoy prosperity after a history of bloodshed. Freedom of movement being one of the unions major principle, it created the Schengen area which is passport-free, borderless travel that covers many people. People enjoy living freely in different countries while studying, trading and working. It created one of the world’s biggest market that has led to sustainable development due to balanced economic growth and price stability, a competitive economy with full employment and social progress. Environmental protection has been achieved as it took sewage off the beaches. It has promoted scientific and technological progress. It has combated social seclusion and discrimination as it banished the death penalty. Has enhanced cultural and linguistic diversity. However there are challenges that it faces such as; meeting regulations is difficult for some nations; Iceland fishing trade. Communication is hard as there is no common language. Member countries have less power to what is sold within the borders. It is difficult for members to withdraw. Countries face pressure towards austerity, less democracy, as outside countries are able to influence other nations. The edge of the union is not defined as even countries from Africa want to join.
