What did Progressives like Jane Addams and Theodore Roosevelt have in common? How did they differ? Were there flaws in their logic and approaches? What changed because of their actions?

Jane Addams and Theodore Roosevelt were prominent personalities in American political history. Both were social workers who at a point in time belonged to the same political party and offered each other support. They both stood out and strongly supported the social movements and women’s rights in the American space. Even though both belonged to one political party, their relationship had many sides. Jane Addams differed with Theodore on some issues like the validity of the African-American delegation, their role, and involvement in World War 1 and peace. It is at this point that Roosevelt completely disagreed with Jane and the name-calling began. Jane was for peace since she was a peace advocate while Roosevelt was for war due to his involvement in the Spanish-American warfare. However, Addams’s and Roosevelt logic and approaches had flaws in it. Addams withdrew her support for Roosevelt and instead supported Woodrow Wilson in 1916.
