At first, white colonists saw Native Americans as supportive and amicable. They invited the Natives into their settlements, and the homesteaders eagerly traded with them. They would have liked to change the clans’ individuals into edified Christians through their daily contacts. The Native Americans despised and opposed the colonists' endeavors to transform them. Their refusal to adjust to European culture enraged the pilgrims and threats before long broke out between the two parties. The brutality of their encounters with the Native Americans brought about a move of English perspectives towards different races. It is argued that colonists failed to absorb the Native Americans into their way of life on racial contrasts and started to connect all non-white individuals with negative attributes.
